The one idea I love everyone to learn is the simple and most basic idea ever: that internal changes lead to external changes. In the book the Alchemist there is a famous quote about how internal changes often lead to different circumstances. The quote I am referring to goes something like when we change, the things around us change. My own experience with this idea began when I was around 18 years old and worked as an electrician trainee alongside one of my colleagues. Specifically, he was around 30 years old and loved talking about how his life would change if he finally won the lottery. As a result of winning the lottery, he emphasised how he would move to South Africa and live the good life. Sadly, he has not won the lottery, and four years have passed since I last talked to him, and even worse, he is still stuck in the same profession he dreaded. Another sad story, the guy believed that if his circumstances changed, his life would become better. A quick question, how will an individual with the same perceptive and beliefs change if their environment changes? Honestly, the individual will change to an extent but will most likely return to their old self. On the other side, if these individuals worked on themselves and their beliefs, perspective, and past traumas, their view of life would change and live a more abundant, joyful, and peaceful life. Also, I am living proof of that, and I always emphasise how important personal development is for an individual’s life! |
